THE KIDS Table Live-Play: D&D, SEL, and kids!

SXSW EDU 2026 Session “Handout” and Questions

Thanks for watching our Performance! (Videos are linked at the bottom of this page.) As you watch our players engage in the game, keep these questions in mind.

What do I notice about how the players interact?

1

When kids and adults play together, it gives kids a chance to learn social-emotional skills by watching the adults—and it gives adults the chance to learn how to engage in play by watching the kids.

Where do I see CASEL’s framework displayed?

2

Self-management, self-awareness, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making are all intrinsic to making a TTRPG table work. As you watch, notice how all of the players—kids and adults—are engaged in each of these different tasks.

What would work for my context? what would I need to leave out or add?

3

No two TTRPG tables are the same, but what we’re doing on stage is translatable to nearly any context—in the classroom, after school, and at home. Find three things you see that you could easily take back home with you, and one thing you’re curious how you might translate.

what questions do I have?

4

For the Q&A portion following the game, we want actual questions—your questions! So, as you’re watching, keep your Notes app open and write down those moments when you go aha!, huh?, or what in the world? so that we can dialogue together in part 2.
